allison
Allison started practising Ashtanga yoga in 1999 in Townsville initially to compliment her outrigger canoe paddling training but soon found it was something she wanted to do more regularly than just once a week at the local yoga studio.
Allison had also suffered some serious injuries previously and found that yoga helped in the rehabilitation of these injuries providing her with strength in areas that other physical forms of exercise had yet to achieve.
Allison moved to Scotland in 2002 where she studied at the Chi Yoga Centre and after graduating began teaching Ashtanga yoga to all levels around Glasgow including several workshops and corporate yoga classes in Glasgow and Stirling. She has studied with some of the world’s leading yoga teachers in India, the US and the UK to deepen her understanding of the Ashtanga Yoga practice and continues her study on a regular basis.
Her own experiences showed her the personal strength that can be gained through developing the quality of breath and movement, and she enjoys guiding people through their own experience of yoga. Allison believes that when you are physically strong, you’re better able to handle the demands of your day with grace and ease. The beauty of practising yoga is that it builds inner strength, which you need to handle the ever-changing challenges that life throws at you each day. While respecting and enjoying the discipline of the Ashtanga yoga sequence, Allison has a lot of fun practising yoga and this carries into her classes, which are presented with an inspiring combination of humility and tradition.
Allison has travelled to India twice, spending 7 months in total, where she studied at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in Mysore and also at Yoga Bones in Goa to deepen her practice of the Ashtanga Yoga system. She is planning to return to India in 2012 to further her studies.
Allison returned to Townsville in 2009, owns Live and Breathe Yoga and teaches Ashtanga Yoga to all levels in the studio and in corporate classes. See the timetable for more details.
