June 2012 : Half way reflection

It’s June already I keep saying to people!  How did that happen? It’s winter time now and its my favourite time of year here.  Crisp sunny days, cool clear nights for the next few months….heaven.  It only feels like yesterday I was booking my fight to India and now I’ve been home from that 2 month trip for 3 months…time really does fly when you are having fun.  So I am thinking it’s a great time, midway though the year to reflect on where I am with what I had set out to do in 2012.  Am I half way there yet?  To be honest I have had to go back and remember what I actually wanted to do with this year as I had totally forgotten!

In January, one of the many many things I set out to do was to learn to sew and decided I wanted to sew a simple shift dress.  For my birthday I was given a voucher from my best friend for a local craft store to take lessons but while I was in India that store sadly closed down. Thankfully the owners honoured the voucher and I was able to use it towards a few private sewing lessons.  I really enjoyed learning something totally new and a having a go at a task that has always filled me with wonder.  I am always so amazed by what people can make and never thought I would be able to make anything, but with a great teacher and a few lessons and I am absolutely chuffed to say I have just finished my first ever dress!  And I love it!  What do you think?

On a side note from that sewing lesson I met Elle from the Creative Business Co. who is an awesome sewing teacher but also a very enthusiastic and down to earth business coach! (even though she doesn’t like the title business coach and she is way more than that) and have already learnt so much by being included in her tribe!  Thanks Elle! It’s amazing how one little thought written down on a scrap piece of paper in January has turned into something so much more!

So this has prompted me to now go back and see what else I had wanted to do with this year and there are many!  Have you, like me lost your way?  The year is half way through and is a perfect time to reflect on where you are and set your intention for where you would like to be by the end of the year.  Have your health goals gone by the wayside?  Has the routine of day to day life taken over and you have allocated no time to what truly truly matters?  The best news is that it is never too late to change that! Don’t feel bad or guilty or beat yourself up about it.  Life is busy, but you have the ability to slow things down, maybe even stop and change the ending to the story.  Just like when you are travelling somewhere and you turn down the wrong street and get lost.  What do you do?  You just recognise that you are not where you want to be, check your map or satnav and turn around correct your route.  The same strategy applies in life.  Recognise that you are not feeling the way you want to feel or doing what you want to be doing, go back and check your intentions/ goals (or maybe even make new ones!) and then change direction.  The fun part is in the change!  Embrace it!  Change is what makes you feel alive!  But to get anywhere you need to keep checking in with the map (your goals/intentions) to be sure you don’t get lost again and again.  And you must do something, even very small and seemingly insignificant to get you there.  You can’t get anywhere just by sitting in your car.  You have to turn the key and put your foot on the accelerator.  Even if you just slightly touch the pedal you will eventually get somewhere.  So one tiny micro-movement at a time is all you need.  Just one class, just one piece of fruit, just one early night, just one email or call and you have started the process….

What one thing are you going to do today to get you back en route to your dreams?
