Things I love : Getting my house in order

Ashtanga Dispatch meets Live and Breathe Yoga

Each month I highlight a few things I am crushing on right now in the hope to share something fun, inspiring and interesting to you…

Ashtanga Dispatch

I have been a big fan of Peg Mulqueen for quite a while now. Her blog is one of my favourites and I pretty much read everything she puts out.  I recently ordered the first issue of the new print magazine called Ashtanga Dispatch and it did not disappoint. I devoured it in one sitting.  If you are addicted to ashtanga yoga like me or are just new to the practice, this is a wonderful resource for all of us.  Check out the new website filled with articles, podcasts and inspiration all with a down to earth, let’s not take ourselves too seriously flavour.

Salt Therapy

I was lucky enough to check out the Salt Therapy room this week.  Even luckier I had the place all to myself.  Beautifully appointed, this place is a hidden gem in the suburbs.  I lounged on the comfy chairs with my feet up,  listening to the soft sounds, I meditated for a bit and then read my book.  Absolute bliss! It boosts the immune system and cleanses the airways (great for us yogi’s who are all about getting the most out of our breath). Karen, the owner is just lovely and will make you feel right at home.  Check it out if you are craving some quiet time to escape.

Getting my house in order

I happened across this book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up : the Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organising” and downloaded to my kindle over the Christmas break.  This book speaks to me so deeply as I am big believer in the mantra “the less you have, the less you have to worry about”.  The author uses the term ‘getting your house in order’ and this was like a light bulb for me. It’s exactly what I feel like I am needing right now. She goes through step by step way to tidy your house once and for all.  Who doesn’t want a tidy house without having to continually keep at it.

Back bending

If you have been to my classes, you know how I love backbends but after a sprain in 2012, falling pregnant in 2013 and being a new mum in 2014 they have been very much neglected. I have good news to report however, with lots of dedication and time on my mat each day, I have started to love them again. Things are starting to feel more ‘normal’ and my back is coming back to enjoying the process of opening up.  The key to making any progress is to just keep showing up.  There’s still a lot to work on and somedays are way harder than others but we all know practice and all is coming. Check out our instagram page for the backbending challenge I’m taking in February…you should join me!
