Live and Breathe Yoga Townsville Yogi of the Month : Oliver

Check out the latest Live and Breathe Yogi of the month, Oliver…

1. When and where did you first start practising yoga?

I first started practicing at the Introduction to Ashtanga course in January 2012 here at Live and Breathe Yoga.

2. Why were you interested in the first place?

After doing a few drop in classes whilst I was travelling in India, I felt a strange pull towards yoga when I got back. After the first Intro class at Live and Breathe Yoga, I felt a strong sense of calm, as well as wonderment and awe of the ashtanga practice.

3. What is it that got you hooked?

Like most others, what got me coming back was the post-practice feeling after class. That feeling of natural joy and vitality. Even though it was short-term and transitory, I felt it more and more as I practiced more frequently.

4. What do you love about Live and Breathe yoga?

Ah what don’t I love? The calm, peaceful energy in the studio when I walk in, the amazing community of ashtangis Allison has created, but most definitely Harry’s chai.

5. What benefits have you felt since practising yoga?

It has changed my life completely, in so many positive ways. I got more flexible and strong physically. Then that seemed to grow into mental strength and flexibility. But most importantly it brings me back to a centre of equanimity, where I can see things as they are.

6. How often do you practice in a week?

I’ve had a 5-6 day per week practice going fairly consistently for about 8 months now.

7. What’s your favourite thing about Ashtanga Yoga?

Everything. The rhythm and flow of the sequence. The feeling after practice. But probably the astounding ability the practice has to transform people physically and mentally.

8. What would you say to someone who is thinking of trying yoga?

Go in with an open mind and playful curiosity. Try not to listen to your negative thoughts, and just experience it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
