Jessica Oliva

Jessica discovered yoga at the age of 14, however life took her in another direction until her early 20s when she ‘rediscovered’ her affinity for it. She has been a dedicated practitioner for over a decade, exploring and evolving from the Ashtanga, Hatha, and Shadow traditions. Jessica was trained in the more traditional manner of working closely with-, and learning from a mentor, and began to develop as a teacher this way as well. In 2018 she formalised her teaching qualifications by completing her 200hr teacher training at the Yoga and Meditation School of India, and her post-graduate 150hr training at Trikaya Yoga, in the tradition of Krishnamacharya.

Yoga to me now is a way of life; a lens with which to view the world, a discipline to adhere to, a constant to return to in an ever changing environment. Sharing my knowledge with others is a way that I can continue the tradition of yoga, and at the same time, I continue to learn. As penned by the great teacher B. K. S. Iyengar in The Tree of Yoga: “Teachers must always be learning. They will learn from their pupils and must have the humility to tell them that they are still learning their art.”

Live and Breathe yoga studio offers something that is harder and harder to come by in a yoga studio in the 21st Century, and that is a wonderful sense of community that I am honoured and blessed to be a part of.  Jessice is currently on maternity leave and will return soon.
